Why Families Choose Gallant Care (vs. Hiring on Your Own)
What You’d Take On When Hiring Independently
Many private caregivers are excellent. The difference is that you become the employer, which usually means:
Running your own background checks, references, and skills vetting
Handling payroll, taxes, workers’ comp, and employer liabilities
Covering scheduling gaps, cancellations, and emergencies yourself
Creating your own care plan, training, and oversight
Managing timekeeping, documentation, and performance
Navigating HR compliance (sick time, overtime, breaks, etc., in California)
If you’re prepared to manage those responsibilities, private hire can work. If you’d rather focus on your loved one while a professional team handles the complexities, that’s where we help

FAQs
Will we always have the same caregiver?
We aim for continuity and consistency. If a change is ever needed, we manage the transition and keep your schedule covered.
What if my caregiver isn’t a fit?
Tell us right away. We’ll rematch and adjust the care plan—no awkward conversations needed on your side.
Is agency care more expensive than hiring privately?
Often, yes—but our rate includes caregiver screening, training, supervision, scheduling, workers’ compensation coverage, documentation, and coordinated backups. Many families find the time saved and risk reduced are worth it.
Do you help with Long-Term Care Insurance (LTCI)?
Yes. We now bill most LTC insurance carriers directly and can accept Assignment of Benefits (AOB) when your policy allows it. We prepare and submit all required documentation (claim forms, care notes, and itemized invoices) and keep you updated on claim status.
Can you bill my health insurance (Medicare or commercial plans)?
Non-medical home care is typically not covered by Medicare or standard medical insurance. We’re not a Medicare-certified home health agency. If you’re unsure, we’ll review your benefits and provide the documentation you may need for your records.
What about Medi-Cal or health plans (e.g., Community Supports)?
At this time, we are not contracted with Medi-Cal plans. If/when contracts become active, we’ll publish them here and confirm your eligibility during intake.
What documents do you need to start an LTCI claim?
Usually: your policy number, the insured’s information, any claim forms from the carrier, details on Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) that require assistance, and our care plan/visit notes. We’ll guide you and handle the paperwork.
How does Assignment of Benefits (AOB) work?
If your policy allows AOB and the carrier approves, benefits are paid directly to Gallant Care, reducing or eliminating your upfront out-of-pocket costs. We’ll confirm AOB eligibility with your carrier before services are billed this way.
Can we start services before the claim is approved?
Yes. Many families start with private pay while claims are processing. Once approved (and if AOB applies), we’ll transition billing and reconcile any applicable amounts per your policy.
What is an LTCI “Elimination Period”?
It’s like a deductible measured in days of care before benefits begin. We’ll help you understand how many days your policy requires and provide the documentation carriers typically request to credit those days.
Do you provide medical or nursing care?
No. We provide non-medical home care (companionship, personal care, mobility support, meal prep, housekeeping, errands, medication reminders, dementia-informed cueing). We don’t perform clinical procedures.
